ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Blues are in rebuilding mode again after dealing off several veteran players. However, general manager Doug Armstrong said it's not from lack of financial backing.

Armstrong said Tuesday that ownership had cleared him to make upgrades before the trade deadline but that the talent pool was too shallow and too expensive for a short-term lift that would conflict with earlier salary-shaving trades of Eric Brewer, Brad Boyes and Brad Winchester for draft picks.

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Blues shipped forward Brad Winchester to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. Heading to the Gateway City is a third-round draft choice in 2012. The 29-year-old posted nine goals and five assists in 57 games this season with St. Louis, adding 86 penalty minutes. Since breaking into the league with Edmonton during the 2005-06 season, the Madison, Wisconsin native has totaled 30 goals and 56 points in 304 games. He is a minus-28 with 436 penalty minutes.
